Birth Trauma

Consider this…you spend nine months in a perfect environment designed especially for you, feeling safe, secure and loved. Then, you’re squeezed out through a narrow opening into a cold, noisy, brightly lit room.

No wonder you cry!

Most women give birth lying down, rather than squatting, a position that could use the force of gravity to assist in the birthing process. Drugs used to manage pain during labor hinder the mother’s ability to push. Deliveries using mechanical intervention, such as forceps or vacuum extraction, may cause a newborn’s first subluxation. The pulling and twisting can create an overlooked injury to the spine. The resulting nerve compromise can disrupt normal communication between the brain and body.

Ripe Tomato.

Left undetected, subluxation may significantly affect the newborn’s ability to adapt to his or her environment, increasing an infant’s susceptibility to infection and illness. Dr. Abraham Towbin, a prominent medical researcher on spinal injury, stated, “The birth process, even under optimal, controlled conditions is a traumatic, potentially crippling event for the fetus.”

Consider the possible effects:
  • Colic and irritability
  • Digestive problems
  • Breathing disorders
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Failure to thrive
  • Learning disorders

Dr. Rob Asks some important questions of interest to Houston residents - Chiropractor Houston Dr. Rob Asks...

Why are frequent visits advised when starting chiropractic care?
Consistent visits at the beginning of your chiropractic care help create the momentum necessary to correct and retrain unhealthy spinal patterns. Later, Houston patients find that continued care on a less frequent visit schedule can help preserve their progress and avoid a relapse.
What is the significance of "growing pains?"
Chiropractors know that aches or pains at any age mean something's not right. In fact, many children go through stages of growth without aches or pains. So while "growing pains" may be common, they're not normal. That's why our Houston chiropractic practice sees lots of children. A chiropractic checkup for your child can often help detect and correct problems that are more difficult to correct in Houston adults.
